Exhaust Manifold Replacement
Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LE5) (2.4L)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer (1).
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector (2).
Note: The HO2S uses a permanently attached pigtail and connector. This pigtail should not be removed from the sensor. Damage or removal of the pigtail or connector will affect proper operation of the sensor.
3. Remove the HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1.
4. Disconnect the fuel line clip from the bracket.
5. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
6. Remove the heat shield.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement (LE5) Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement.
8. Remove the upper exhaust manifold brace bolt.
9. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold nuts.
10. Remove the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter assembly.
11. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket on the cylinder head.
2. Install the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter assembly.
3. Install the NEW exhaust manifold nuts finger tight.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
4. Install the upper exhaust manifold brace bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
5. Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown.
Tighten the nuts to 14 Nm (10 lb ft).
6. Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement (LE5) Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement.
7. Install the heat shield.
8. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).
9. Connect the fuel line clip to the bracket.
10. Install the HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1.
11. Connect the HO2S electrical connector (2).
12. Install the CPA retainer (1).
13. Start the vehicle and inspect for leaks.
