Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) generates the audible warning through an acoustic chime generator in the IPC. The IPC receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit from the body control module (BCM).

Circuit/System Verification

Important: Before performing this diagnostics, make sure no indicators are illuminated after the IPC performs a lamp test. If any indicators are illuminated after the bulb test, perform the indicator diagnostics before this diagnostics.

1. Ignition ON, headlamp switch OFF, verify the scan tool Headlamp Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not Inactive, refer to Headlamps Malfunction Headlamps Malfunction.

2. Ignition ON, doors closed, verify the scan tool Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Closed.

If not Door Closed, refer to Courtesy Lamps Malfunction Courtesy Lamps Malfunction.

3. Verify that the Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter is Yes when the key is in the ignition and No when the key is out of the ignition.

If not the specified value, test or replace the IPC.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the key in ignition switch.
2. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5V reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.

If less than the specified range, test the 5V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

If greater than the specified range, test the 5V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

3. Verify the BCM scan tool Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter is No.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and the 5V reference circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter displays Yes.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the ignition switch.
