Battery Negative Cable Replacement




Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LE5 or LE9) (2.4L)

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. If applicable, disconnect the battery current sensor harness connector.
3. Remove the battery negative cable ground terminal (2) and nut (1) nut at the tie bar.
4. Remove the negative battery cable clip (3) from the battery tray.




5. Remove the tape holding the positive cable to the negative cable.
6. Remove the negative cable from the retainers.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
8. Remove the radiator lower air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
9. Remove the engine harness ground lead bolt (1).
10. Remove the negative cable (6).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the negative cable.
2. Position the negative battery cable terminal (6) in front of the engine harness ground terminal (5).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the engine harness ground lead bolt (1) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the radiator lower air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install the negative cable to the retainers.
7. Install tape holding the positive cable to the negative cable.




8. Install the negative battery cable clip (3) to the battery tray.
9. Install the battery negative cable ground terminal (2) and nut (1) at the tie bar and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
10. If applicable, connect the battery current sensor harness connector.
11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
