Power Door Locks Description and Operation

Power Door Locks System Components

* Body Control Module (BCM)
* Door lock switches
* Door lock key cylinder switches
* Door lock actuators

Door Lock Features

The BCM has the following door lock features:
All Door Unlock
- The BCM unlocks all of the doors when you press UNLOCK on either door lock switch or turn the key to the unlock position from the passenger door key cylinder switch.

All Door Lock
- The BCM locks all of the doors when you press LOCK on either door lock switch.

Lockout Prevention
- The BCM does not lock the doors if you press LOCK on either door lock switch if the key is in the ignition cylinder and the driver and or the front passenger door is open.

Driver Door All Unlock
- The BCM unlocks all of the vehicle doors when you turn the key to the UNLOCK position twice in quick succession from the driver door key cylinder switch.

The driver and passenger door lock switches and key cylinder switches are inputs to the BCM. The BCM applies a reference voltage to the switch signal circuits. When a switch is activated the signal circuit will be closed to ground and the reference voltage is pulled low. The lock actuator control circuits are grounded while in an inactive state and when a lock or unlock command is activated the appropriate control circuit is switched to battery voltage. The lock actuators are bi-directional and lock or unlock operation is determined by which control circuit is switched to voltage while the other remains grounded.

Power Door Locks Customize Parameters (Scan Tool)

The power door locks can be customized according to the customer preference.

Important:
* Before attempting to customize vehicle settings, confirm whether it is possible to make the change that the customer has requested.

* Be sure to record the current settings before customizing.

* Before troubleshooting the door lock system, make sure that the function is set to the default setting.


1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Connect the scan tool.
3. Turn the scan tool ON, and navigate to the body control module personalization settings.
4. Select the setting by referring to the following table:

The power door locks can be customized according to the ignition switch linked automatic unlock function.

Important:
* Before attempting to customize vehicle settings, confirm that the default setting in ON.

* If the following conditions occur during customizing procedure, customizing will fail.


* 10 seconds elapse after turning the ignition switch to the ON position.

* The ignition switch is turned OFF.

* Any door is opened.


1. Turn the ignition ON.
2. Move the shift lever into any position other than Park.
3. Press the unlock switch. Customizing is then started.
4. Press the unlock switch 5 times and the lock switch once.
5. Wait for 10 seconds after step (4), then unlock all doors for an answer back (If no answer back, repeat procedure).
