Parking Brake Adjustment (All Wheel Drive and GT)

J-45101-100 - Conical Brake Rotor Washers
Inspection Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Pull the park brake lever with approximately 20 kg (45 lb) of force.
3. Count the number of clicks or ratchet notches.
* The minimum number of clicks is 6.
* The maximum number of clicks is 9.
4. Attempt to rotate the rear wheels. Verify the rear wheels do not rotate.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Verify the red BRAKE warning indicator stays ON.
6. Release the park brake.
7. Attempt to rotate the rear wheels. Verify the rear wheels rotate freely.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Verify the red BRAKE warning indicator is OFF.
9. If the park brake lever travel is correct, lower the vehicle.
10. If the park brake lever travel is not correct, complete the Adjustment Procedure.
Adjustment Procedure
1. Remove the rear floor console. Refer to Rear Floor Console Replacement (Rear Floor Console Replacement).
2. Release the park brake.
3. Loosen the lock nut (1).
4. Loosen the adjusting nut (2) in order to fully release the park brake.
5. With the engine OFF, press and release the brake pedal 5 times.
6. Turn the adjusting nut in order to adjust the park brake lever travel. Refer to the Inspection Procedure.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
7. Use a wrench in order to hold the adjusting nut. Tighten the lock nut to 6.0 Nm (53 lb in).
8. Apply and release the park brake 4 times.
9. Inspect the park brake lever travel. Refer to the Inspection Procedure.
10. If the park brake lever travel is correct, install the rear floor console. Refer to Rear Floor Console Replacement (Rear Floor Console Replacement).
If the park brake lever travel is not correct, continue with this procedure.
11. Release the park brake.
12. Loosen the lock nut.
13. Loosen the adjusting nut in order to fully release the park brake.
14. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
15. Install the J-45101-100 - washers (1) to the wheel studs.
16. Install the wheel nuts (2) finger tight.
17. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug.
18. Turn the shoe adjuster (1) and expand the shoes until the brake rotor locks.
19. Turn the shoe adjuster and contract the shoes until the brake rotor rotates smoothly. The standard return is 8 notches.
20. Ensure there is no brake drag against the shoes.
21. Install the shoe adjusting hole plug.
22. Turn the adjusting nut in order to adjust the park brake lever travel. Refer to the Inspection Procedure.
23. Use a wrench in order to hold the adjusting nut. Tighten the lock nut to 6.0 Nm (53 lb in).
24. Apply and release the park brake 4 times.
25. Inspect the park brake lever travel. Refer to the Inspection Procedure.
26. Remove the wheel nuts.
27. Remove the J-45101-100 - washers.
28. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
29. Install the rear floor console. Refer to Rear Floor Console Replacement (Rear Floor Console Replacement).
30. Lower the vehicle.
