4-5 Reverse Clutch Housing Disassemble
Special Tools
* DT-47693-2 Dam Protector
* J 23907 Slide Hammer with Bearing Adapter
1. Remove the 4, 5 reverse clutch housing seal rings (1) from the transaxle rear cover.
2. Using J 23907 (1), remove the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing bearing from the case cover.
3. Using a screwdriver, remove the transmission case fluid passage gaskets (1, 2, 3).
4. Remove the bolt (2), clamp and the 2nd clutch apply pipe (1).
5. Remove the fluid pipe (3).
6. Remove the 2nd clutch apply pipe from the clamp.
7. Remove the low clutch roller thrust bearing (2) and the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing (1) from the transaxle case.
8. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring (1) from the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing.
9. Remove the reverse clutch plates from the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing.
10. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing.
11. Remove the 4, 5, clutch plates from the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing.
12. Using a press and DT-47693-2 (1), remove the 4, 5, clutch piston snap ring.
Note:
* Stop pressing when the spring seat is 1-2 mm (0.039-0.078 in) from the snap ring groove. This prevents the spring seat from being deformed.
* Do not expand the snap ring excessively.
13. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the 4, 5, reverse housing.
14. Remove the 4, 5, clutch piston spring guide (1).
15. Remove the 4, 5, clutch piston spring (1) from the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing (2).
16. Install the 4, 5, reverse clutch housing into the rear cover.
17. Holding the 4, 5, clutch piston by hand, apply compressed air to the cover (1) to remove the 4, 5, clutch piston.
18. Holding the 4, 5, clutch housing by hand, apply compressed air to the rear cover (1) to remove the 4, 5, clutch piston.
19. Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring (1) from the 4, 5, clutch piston.
20. Remove the 4, 5, clutch and hub from the rear sun gear (3).
21. Remove the 4, 5, clutch and hub thrust bearing (2) and race (1).
