Line Pressure Check
Line Pressure Check
Tools Required
* J 35752 Oil Pressure Gage Adapter
* J 21867 Universal Pressure Gage Set
Important: This test should only be performed at a normal operating fluid temperature of 50-80°C (122-176°F).
1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the left splash shield from vehicle. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side).
3. Remove the pressure tap plug from test port (1) at the rear of the transaxle.
4. Install J 21867 into J 35752 and into test port (1) on the transmission.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Route hose over the front fender and through the driver's window so that it can be read from the passenger compartment.
7. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and display the engine RPM.
8. Apply the parking brake and block the vehicle wheels.
9. Press the brake pedal fully and start the engine.
10. Place the manual selector in the drive (D) range.
11. Using the scan tool, command the third gear active and measure the line pressure at idle.
12. Turn OFF the ignition.
Note: Only disconnect the transmission connector when performing the D position stall test.
13. Disconnect the transmission connector (1).
14. Start the engine.
15. Press the accelerator pedal fully/wide open throttle and record the line pressure in the drive (D) range at stall speed (2,310 ± 150 RPM). Release the accelerator pedal.
16. Turn the engine OFF.
17. Connect the transmission connector.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
18. Remove the gage from test port (1) and install the test port plug.
Tighten the line pressure tap bolt to 7.5 Nm (66 lb in).
19. Remove the pressure tap plug from test port (2) at the rear of the transaxle.
20. Install J 21867 into J 35752 and into test port (2) on the transmission.
21. Start the engine.
22. Depress the brake pedal fully, place the selector lever in the reverse (R) range and record the line pressure at idle speed (600-700 RPM).
23. Press the accelerator pedal fully/wide open throttle and record the line pressure in the reverse (R) range at stall speed (2,310 ± 150 RPM). Release the accelerator pedal.
24. Place the manual selector in Park range and turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
25. Remove the scan tool from the vehicle.
26. Remove J 21867 from the passenger compartment.
27. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
28. Remove J 21867 from J 35752 .
29. Remove J 35752 from the line pressure tap test port (2) at the rear of the transaxle.
30. Install the line pressure tap bolt into the test port (2) at the rear of the transaxle.
Tighten the line pressure tap bolt to 7.5 Nm (66 lb in).
31. Install the left splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side).
32. Lower the vehicle.
Evaluation
Compare the line pressure test results with the Line Pressure Specifications. Refer to Line Pressure (MVD 5 Speed - Automatic Transmission). If the line pressure is not as specified, refer to the Line Pressure Test Diagnosis for further evaluation.
