Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Outer Joint Boot Replacement

J-35566 - Drive Shaft Boot Clamp Pliers

Disassembly Procedure

1. Remove the rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair)
2. Remove the rear wheel drive shaft inner joint boot. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint Boot Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint Boot Replacement).




3. Remove the smaller rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp. Discard the clamp.




4. Remove the larger rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp. Discard the clamp
5. Remove the outboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft assembly.

Note: Do not disassemble the outboard joint.

6. Remove the old grease from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly.

Assembly Procedure

1. Install new parts to the outboard joint shaft in the following order:

1. Smaller rear wheel drive outboard joint boot clamp
2. Outboard joint boot
3. Larger rear wheel drive outboard joint boot clamp

2. Pack the outboard joint shaft assembly and outboard joint boot with grease from the boot kit.

Grease capacity: 100 g (3.6 oz)

3. Install the rear wheel drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp.




4. Crimp the smaller boot (1) retaining clamp (2) using J-35566 - clamp pliers




5. Using a suitable tool (1), measure the clearance of the boot clamp.

Note: If the measured value exceeds the specified value, retighten the clamp.

6. Inspect the clearance of the rear wheel drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp.

Clearance: 1.0 mm (0.0394 in)

7. Install the larger rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp.




8. Crimp the larger boot (1) retaining clamp (2) using J-35566 - clamp pliers




9. Using a suitable tool (1), measure the clearance of the boot clamp.

Note: If the measured value exceeds the specified value, retighten the clamp.

10. Inspect the clearance of the larger rear wheel drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp.

Clearance: 1.0 mm (0.0394 in)

11. Install the rear wheel drive shaft inner joint boot. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint Boot Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint Boot Replacement).
12. Install the rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair)
