Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair




Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
2. Remove the upper tie bar. Refer to Upper Tie Bar Replacement ().
3. Remove the upper fan shroud bolts and remove the fan shroud.





Note: Cap the open fittings in order to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system.

4. Remove the bolt (1) and the condenser outlet tube (2).
5. Remove the O-ring from the outlet tube.




6. Remove the bolt (1) and the condenser inlet tube (2).
7. Remove the O-ring from the inlet tube.




8. Lift up and remove the condenser with receiver as an assembly.




9. Remove the four condenser mounting cushions, if necessary.
10. Remove the receiver dehydrator, if necessary. Refer to Receiver and Dehydrator Replacement (Service and Repair).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the receiver dehydrator, if removed. Refer to Receiver and Dehydrator Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Install the four condenser mounting cushions, if removed.





Note: When installing a new condenser, add 40 ml (1.4 fl oz) of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system.

3. Install the condenser to the vehicle.
4. Install new O-rings to the condenser inlet tube lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Install the bolt (1) to the condenser inlet tube (2).

Tighten the bolt (1) to 5.4 Nm (48 lb in).

6. Install new O-rings to the condenser outlet tube lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.




7. Install the bolt (1) and the condenser outlet tube (2).

Tighten the bolt (1) to 5.4 Nm (48 lb in).

8. Install the upper fan shroud and fan shroud bolts.
9. Install the upper tie bar. Refer to Upper Tie Bar Replacement ().
10. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
11. Operate the A/C system and test for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Leak Testing (Leak Testing).
