Exhaust Camshaft and Valve Lifter Installation





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Clamp the camshaft in a vise, then install the camshaft timing sprocket with the bolt.

Tighten the sprocket bolt to 54 Nm (40 lb ft).





Note: Keep the installation surfaces and the back surfaces of the bearing free of engine oil.

2. Align the claws (2) and install camshaft bearing (1) onto camshaft bearing cap.




3. Install the camshaft bearing (1) onto the cylinder head.
4. Install camshaft.
5. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the journal portion.




6. Examine the front marks and numbers, and check that the order is as shown in the illustration. Then install the bearing caps onto the cylinder head.
7. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the bearing cap bolts.




8. Using several steps, uniformly tighten the 10 bearing cap bolts (1) in the sequence shown in the illustration.

* No. 2 Bearing cap to 30 Nm (22 lb ft)
* No. 3 Bearing cap to 9.0 Nm (80 lb in)
