Condition

Some customers may comment that the paint on the liftgate is chipping at the outboard ends of the spoiler.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the rubber seal(s) on the underside of the spoiler being positioned too far inward. This may allow the spoiler to make contact with the liftgate and cause paint chipping on one or both sides.

Correction

Inspect and repair the vehicle using the following procedure:

1. Remove the rear spoiler. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement in SI.
2. On the underside of the spoiler, remove the out of position rubber seal(s) from the outboard side(s) showing paint chipping.
3. Clean the adhesive residue from the underside of the spoiler using a general purpose adhesive cleaner.

4. Install new rubber seal(s) in the correct position as shown. Ensure that the grove in the seal is over the edge of the spoiler.

Important
Do not repair the paint without the seal repair completed.

5. Repair the chipped paint.
6. Install the spoiler. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement in SI.
