Removal Procedure
Note: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
1. Open the door.
2. Remove the windshield inside garnish moldings (1) from the vehicle. 3. Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement (Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement).
Warning
If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
4. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
1. Upper dash pad
2. Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
3. Seats and carpeting
5. Open the hood.
6. Remove the air inlet grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement (Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement).
Warning
If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.
Warning
When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.
Note: Depending on vehicles, one piece (1) or two piece (2) stoppers are used on the windshield.
8. Disconnect the windshield glass stoppers (1) (2), if equipped.
Note: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.
9. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
* Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
* The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
* Use the J 24402-A , J 39032 , or equivalent in order to remove the window.
10. Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool.
11. Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2).
12. Remove the windshield glass adhesive dam (1).
13. Remove the one piece windshield glass stopper (1), if equipped.
14. Remove the two piece windshield glass stopper (1), if equipped.
Installation Procedure
1. Replace the two piece windshield glass stopper (1), if equipped.
2. Replace the one piece windshield glass stopper (1), if equipped.
3. Replace the windshield glass adhesive dam (1).
4. Install a stationary window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows (Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows).
5. Install the air inlet grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement (Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement).
7. Close the hood.
8. Install the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement (Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement).
9. Install the windshield side garnish moldings (1). Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Without Roof Side Rail Restraint))Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint) (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (With Roof Side Rail Restraint)).
10. Remove the double layer of masking tape from around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
11. Close the door.
