Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

The catalytic converter reduces hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust by oxidizing these exhaust components. Models equipped with exhaust gas oxygen sensors are equipped with three way catalysts which reduce nitrogen oxides in addition to oxidizing hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
