This is to notify you of a Recall Campaign involving 1982/83 Model 924, 924 Turbo and 944 Porsches. The supplier of the rear spring plates has determined that a small number of spring plates installed on the subject vehicles were not tempered. Depending on vehicle load, driving conditions and mileage, the improperly hardened plates could eventually crack and/or break. This occurence could affect lateral guidance of the corresponding rear wheel and result in loss of control of the vehicle.
A total of 4193 Porsche 924 and 944 for the United States are involved and fall within the following vehicle identification ranges:
Porsche 924 WPOAA092-CN45 2108 to 452277
Porsche 924 Turbo WPOAA093-CN15 0860 to 150876
Porsche 944 WPOAA094-DN45 0001 to 454259
Customer Notification
Porsche Cars North America will notify all known owners directly by first class mail during the week of September 9th, 1985, as per enclosed copy of notification.

Special Tool Requirement
A specially developed "EMCOTEST" instrument will be supplied on loan basis to enable you to test the hardness of both rear spring plates on all affected vehicles. On the completion of this campaign we will request this instrument back. If the instrument is damaged due to negligence, or is lost, you will be charged $350.00.
In case the hardness tester malfunctions, notify the Technical Service Department of Porsche Cars North America, at once. We will have it replaced.
Parts Requirements
The parts required to perform this recall campaign are assembled in kit form:
Spring Plate Kit, left side: 000.043.039.00 Spring Plate Kit, right side: 000.043.040.00
Since only a small number of spring plates will require replacement, we will ship you one spring plate kit for each side.
If, in the course of the inspections, you find that you need additional kit(s), an emergency order should be placed. The kit (s) will be shipped to you Federal Express second day air, freight prepaid.
Time Allowance
A. Vehicle inspection; vehicle in specification - 50TU
B. Vehicle inspection and replacement of one - 660TU spring plate
C. Vehicle inspection and replacement of both - 710TU spring plates
