Heater Removal

Removing

1. Disconnect battery.
2. Remove splash guard and drain coolant.






3. Remove steering wheel and steering column switch.






4. Remove instrument frame.






5. Remove cassette box.









6. Remove knee guard (air conditioner) or shelf. Remove glove box and disconnect light.






7. Remove radio.






8. Pull off knob on control switch and blower knob. Unscrew frame mounting screws and lift/pull off frame downward.


9. Remove instrument cluster.






10. Disconnect control switch. Disengage and pull out blower switch. Pull off multiple-pin plug.





11. Disconnect switches in center console. Remove center console and take out over shift lever.






12. Press off radio speaker mask and remove speakers in cars before 1983 models. Remove instrument panel at center.






13. Disassembling left and right A pillars.






14. Remove instrument panel on left and right sides.
15. Remove instrument panel on heater box assembly. Pull off air hoses and take off instrument panel.






16. Remove heater valve, after removing and moving pulse transmitter plug holder aside. Disconnect cable.
To facilitate removal, loosen upper hose clamp and pull up heater valve.
Pull in cable.





17. Press out plastic button on cover. Detach seal on body and take off cover.
18. Remove flap box assembly.






19. Disconnect plug and unscrew mounting bolt on blower. Remove blower.






20. Remove inside holder above heater box.






21. Coat heater hoses in engine compartment with soapy water.
Pull in and remove heater box together with heater hoses.

Installing

Note: Check position of cables between control switch and defroster flap as well as heater valve.






Mount heater hoses before installing heater box.






Lubricate double grommet and heater hoses with soapy water. Slide in heater hoses together with heater box.






Place cover in fresh air chamber before tightening heater box screws.
Lengthen seal uniformly before applying on cover, to reduce diameter of seal slightly.






To prevent scraping off seal while installing cover, place a strip of plastic sheet on seal in rear area of cover. Remove plastic sheet afterwards.
