Service Manager/Service Technician
Models Affected:
911 Carrera 214
Concern:
Damaged spark plug connectors and/or spark plugs will cause engine performance problems and/or false warning light operation.
Repair Information:
A. Spark Plug Connector Removal and Installation.
In some cases force has to be applied to pull off the spark plug connectors. Use special tool 9513 (order No. 000 721 951 30) to pull the connectors. Do not pull or pry the connectors off at an angle or the connector insert could break. Connectors must be inspected for breaks after removal.
When installing, make sure that the spark plug connector is properly engaged on the spark plug. Loose spark plug connectors could influence the function of control units in the car.
B. Spark Plug Removal and Installation.
Spark plug socket wrench (16 mm/5/8 inch) with inner rubber liner (Snap-On S9706 or similar) must be used to remove and install spark plugs. Do not use magnetic socket wrenches. These can cause breaks at the ceramic spark plug insulator (sometimes not easily visible) causing engine performance problems and/or false warning light operation.
