Special Tool 9111 Support Plate for 911 Engine Removal
Key Points:

Modifications to allow use of support plate when removing/installing engines with new type crankcase introduced by Porsche.

In March, 1983 a new crankcase was introduced in Porsche 911 vehicles as of the following engine numbers:

64D3717 - 911 SC
67D0712 - 911 Turbo (Canada)

The shape of the new crankcase is changed to such a degree that it is no longer possible to safely hold the engine during removal or installation with the old engine support plate, Special Tool No. 9111. Consequently, it is necessary to modify the old support plate if it is to be used for engines with the new type crankcase.

MODIFICATION PROCEDURE:

1.) Modify opening on thin support web of special Tool 9111 by filing or grinding as per illustration and check fit to new crankcase. Edges should be chamfered slightly.

2.) Chamfer upper corners of center
opening on thick support web as per illustration.

3.) To enable use of the modified support plate (No. 9111) when removing
or installing engines with the old type crankcase, a supplementary support, Special Tool No. 9111/2a, must he attached.

Note: On page 10-2 of Repair Manual 911 Turbo the support is shown as locally made Special Tool 9111/1; it should read 9111/2a.

Drill two 10.5 mm holes in modified engine support plate at locations shown in illustration. Mount support No. 9111/2a with two M10 x 25 hex head bolts, M10 nuts and washers as shown in previous illustration.
Finished assembly is now suitable for safely removing or installing engines with either new or old type crankcase.

CAUTION: The new crankcase can not be held safely with Special Tool 9111 in UNMODIFIED FORM.
