Camshaft housing gaskets without reinforcement webs, Part No. 928.105.199.12, have been installed in production since 9/81. These gaskets were designed for use with camshaft housings which do not incorporate separate guide sleeves for the tappets, but may also be installed on engines with tappet guide sleeves if properly modified.

When installing these gaskets on engines with tappet guide sleeves, cutouts must be made to provide clearance for the collars on the guide sleeves (arrow).
Note

Tappet guide sleeves standard in production up to engine number 811 0211 (manual trans.) and 811 5201 (automatic trans.).

Use the attached template (page 2) to mark the areas to be cut from the gaskets before installation.
Because the new gasket will not retain its shape as well as the earlier version with support webs, install the gasket on the cylinder head with a light coating of a suitable gasket adhesive.

Apply adhesive sparingly at several points only to maintain gasket position and not affect the sealing qualities of the gasket.

Note

Camshaft housing gasket set, Part No. 928.105.901.00 for the earlier version with tappet guides is no longer available. However, separate parts are still available under the following part numbers:

gasket - 928.105.199.06 seals - 928.105.427.00 (Qty. of 4)
