Owner Letter Information
Subject: Recall Campaign F01 1984 - 1985 Porsche 944 Model Replacement of cruise control linkage bushingsDear Porsche Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Porsche AG has determined that a defect exists in the cruise control linkage on some 1984 and 1985 Porsche 944 vehicles. Our records indicate that you are the owner of one of the vehicles which may have this defect.
The bushings on the cruise control linkage may have been produced with an unfavorable clearance. Under certain conditions while the cruise control is in use, the bushings may bind, preventing the free return of the accelerator pedal to the idle position. If this condition occurred, it would cause difficulty in controlling the vehicle, and could result in an accident.
You should arrange for an appointment with your Porsche dealer as soon as possible. Your Porsche dealer will replace the bushings on your vehicle with a different type to insure the proper clearance and free movement of the cruise control linkage. Until such time that you have this recall campaign performed, you should not use your cruise control. Moreover, you should instruct anyone else who drives your Porsche 944 not to use the cruise control.
Replacement parts will be available at your Porsche dealer by March 11, 1985. The estimated time necessary to perform this work is approximately one hour. The work will, of course, be free of charge to you.
If your dealer fails, or is unable to remedy the defect without charge within a reasonable amount of time, you may call or write to:
