Ignition System: Service Precautions
1. Do not attempt to start engine without battery being properly connected.
2. Never disconnect battery while engine is running.
3. Never use a battery booster to start engine. If jump start is required, use only a 12 volt outside battery.
4. Disconnect battery before charging it.
5. Before attempting to measure resistance values, ensure ignition is turned Off or battery is disconnected.
6. If starter has to be cranked without starting engine, connect terminal 4 of ignition coil to suitable ground with suitable high voltage lead with a shielding sleeve of at least 2000 ohms or disconnect electrical connectors of control units.
7. Do not replace ignition coil with a different type.
8. Do not install a shielded capacitor to ignition coil terminals 1 and 15.
9. Do not connect positive battery voltage or a test lamp to ignition coil terminal 1.
10. Do not disconnect high tension lead between coil and distributor while engine is running.
11. Secondary side of ignition system must be shielded with at least 4000 ohms, along with the standard rotor shielding of 1000 ohms. Do not install a rotor of higher resistance for any reason.
