Lifting Roof Drive

The entire drive unit is mounted on a console. The console is bolted on the left rear side wall of the luggage compartment with 3 bolts and rubber mounts.
The drive unit is protected by a cover plate to avoid damage from sliding loads in the rear compartment.

Located on the face of the console:

1. Electric motor with gearbox
2. Microswitches for "roof locking" position.
3. Relays for electric motor
4. Wire harness with relay sockets

Located on back of console:

1. Pinion housing
2. Microswitches for "roof open" position
3. Drag arm
4. Pivoting arm
5. Electric plug
Installation Note:

After removing mounting bolts, the console can be swung away so that the back is then accessible for repairs or replacements.

The connecting pipe of the drive cable is bolted with the pinion housing in the installed position and is also held with sheet metal tabs (arrow) to prevent turning.
The connecting pipe can be taken off of the pinion housing after removing both mounting nuts.

The lifting roof drive cable is guided through the pivoting arm in the area of the console so that a circular arc is produced and there is no contact with the console.
A square edged clamping sleeve is crimped on the end of the drive cable, which is inserted and bolted in the drag arm. Caution: .7 ft.lbs. (1 N-m) tightening torque.

The drag arm has bevelled bearing surfaces for the microswitches.
The "roof locked" microswitches can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction.
The "roof opened" microswitch is operated by a cam on the drag arm. The microswitch is bolted on the pinion housing and can be adjusted.

The connecting pipe and guide pipe are joined by a coupler. The coupler consists of a housing, (1) and two clamping sleeves (2). The joint can be disengaged by pressing in the clamping sleeves and pulling out the pipes simultaneously.

The guide pipe and connecting pipe can be joined by special tool "9621".

Special Tool "9261" ensures the necessary clearance of 0.8-0.2 mm between the clamping sleeves and the housing at the coupler connection. The full holding force of the coupler can only be guaranteed in this position.
When assembling, the special tool "9261" must be used on the coupler and the connection pipe or guide pipe pushed into the coupler against stop.
