When the kickdown shift point is incorrect or does not function, causing slow or late shifts and noticeably sluggish driving characteristics, the cause may be an incorrectly adjusted control cable.

The correct adjustment of the control cable should be carried out as follows:

- Adjust engine idle to specification

- Adjust accelerator cable without free play

- Disconnect control cable on throttle housing

- Pull slightly on control cable until a pressure point is noticeable. (The pressure point can be felt after approx. 1-2 mm of control cable travel)

- Adjust control cable to this pressure point without free play and reconnect.

Adjusting Tolerance: max. 1 turn tension on the control cable

- Additional checks of the control cable function may be done by removing the ATF pan and visually checking the operation of the control pressure valve. See drawing.
