Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The signal from the throttle position sensor is used for timing control, full load enrichment and boost control.

CONSTRUCTION
The Throttle Position Sensor and Closed Throttle Position Switch are in one housing. The throttle position sensor is a variable potentiometer that provides a voltage signal to the Knock Regulation (KLR) Control Unit. The closed throttle position switch is a micro switch inside the housing that is closed by the throttle shaft.

OPERATION
The housing is located on the side of the throttle body and is operated by the throttle shaft. The throttle position sensor is a potentiometer that provides a varying voltage signal to the KLR control unit to indicate current engine load and full throttle. The KLR control unit provides a signal for full throttle to the ECM.
