Air Injection: Description and Operation

The air injection system reduces the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide in the exhaust gases by continuing the combustion of unburned gases after they leave the engine. Fresh air is injected into the exhaust stream which results in further oxidation of both the hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
