Cleaning the Entire Engine-Oil System After Engine Failure
CLEANING THE ENTIRE ENGINE-OIL SYSTEM AFTER ENGINE FAILURE (BEARING FAILURE)
Practical cleaning sequence:
1. Thoroughly clean bores in crankcase halves and holes of injection valves for piston cooling.
2. Clean intermediate shaft, removing and reinstalling aluminum plug.
3. Disassemble oil pump and clean.
4. Rinse crankshaft and oil ducts several times.
5. Clean engine thermostat thoroughly.
6. Fit replacement engine-oil cooler. It is impossible to remove all particles of metal.
7. Renew spray tubes for camshaft housing.
8. Chain tensioners cannot be disassembled or cleaned. However, they may be reused.
9. Remove oil filter, oil tank and oil-supply sensor. Rinse oil tank with engine cleaner. See Item 13
10. Check air-bleed system between oil tank and air filter system and clean if necessary.
11. Remove regulator housing for front oil cooler (in rear right-hand wheel well), disassemble and clean.
12. Remove front oil cooler. Cars with coil coolers and tubular oil coolers can be rinsed. It is not possible to remove all particles of metal from vane-type oil coolers. Remove vane-type oil cooler if fitted.
13. Spray engine cleaner, e.g. SILVER STAR manufactured by Kock Chemie, Unna, into the disconnected oil lines and allow to penetrate. Then thoroughly clean oil lines with steam cleaner and blow through with compressed air.
14. Change oil filter and engine oil after approx. 500 km.
