Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheels and disconnect brake line at hose support bracket.
3. Support lower control arm and steering knuckle with suitable jack stand.
4. Remove strut retaining and eccentric bolts and strut from steering knuckle.
5. Remove three bearing flange bolts and the shock assembly, Fig. 3.
6. Position strut assembly in a suitable spring compressor.
7. Compress spring and remove the strut locknut, stop and flange.
8. Release spring tension and remove the coil spring.
9. Remove components from piston rod.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Install coil spring in strut unit with straight cut end of spring down.
