Subject: Service Action 1987/88 Porsche 944S Vehicles Replacement of Camshaft Drive Belt

Dear Porsche Owner:

Our records indicate that you are the owner of a Porsche model 944S. Porsche AG has determined that in some cases the original camshaft drive belt on such vehicles may fail. Continued driving with this belt may result in its breakage and cause extensive engine damage.

An improved belt is now available and must be installed on your vehicle to ensure proper service life. A modified maintenance schedule for this belt will be inserted into your Warranty Maintenance Booklet at the time of repair.

Please contact your Porsche dealer as soon as possible for an appointment to have the camshaft drive belt on your 944S Porsche replaced at our cost. Replacement parts are presently available at your Porsche dealer.

The estimated time to replace the camshaft drive belt is approximately 3 hours. However, your 944S Porsche may have to be left longer at your Porsche dealership since the engine needs to cool down prior to the repair. This work and a follow-up belt inspection/adjustment 2000 to 2500 miles after its installation will be free of charge to you.
