Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General Information

This is to notify you of a voluntary Recall Campaign involving 53,427 Porsche 924S, 944, 944 Turbo and 944S, of various model years from 1985 thru 1988, within the VIN ranges:

It was determined that due to hardening of the material of a fuel line hose between the fuel rail and the pressure regulator, fuel leaks can develop between the hose and metal pipe fittings. The leaking fuel may ignite on the hot exhaust system and create an engine compartment fire.

Customer Notification

Porsche Cars North America will notify all known owners of vehicles within the Recall VIN ranges directly by first class mail during the week of April 16, 1990, or as soon as sufficient quantity of parts are at the dealerships. See enclosed copy of letter to these consumers. A listing of all vehicles with owner's name and address in your area, within the Recall VIN ranges, will be sent to you shortly.

If a vehicle within the Recall VIN ranges is in your dealership for service/repair or in dealer inventory and/or demo use, the Recall Campaign should be performed without delay.

Parts Requirement

Parts required to perform this Recall Campaign will be shipped to you shortly. The initial quantity of parts shipped to your dealership will be based on approximately 70% of the vehicles in your area. To fulfill this requirement, we may ship to you these parts in two shipments, commencing with the first shipment this week. Additional parts, after the allocation, should be ordered as needed through normal parts channels.

The parts needed to perform the required Recall Campaign for each vehicle are:

Time Allowance

a) 30 TU for replacing the fuel hose on the 924S, 944 or 944 Turbo model.

b) 140 TU for replacing the fuel rail on the 944S model.
