Making Idle Adjustments - USA

MAKING IDLE ADJUSTMENTS - USA

Adjusting Requirement:
Engine in perfect running condition.

Note: Procedures must be performed in given sequence.

1. Connect exhaust test line on test connection of catalytic converter.

2. Connect CO tester according to instructions supplied with equipment.

3. Run engine to operating temperature (oil temperature approx. 90 °C).

4. Disconnect oxygen sensor plug in engine compartment on left-hand side.

5. Check CO. If CO is not as specified, make correction on air flow sensor.
Insert Special Tool 9156 or a standard flexible screwdriver.
Turning clockwise = richer mixture
Turning anticlockwise = leaner mixture

Note: Switch off electric equipment while making adjustments.
Make adjustments as quickly as possible to avoid excessive heat in intake ports, which would cause wrong CO values.

Intake air temperature approx. 15 to 35° C / 59 to 95° F

6. Connect oxygen sensor plug after completing adjustments.

7. Check idle speed, correcting if necessary. This requires stopping function of the idle volumetric control.

a) A test socket is located on engine central electric board in engine compartment on left-hand side.

Bridge test jacks B and C with a locally made wire.
(This stops function of the idle volumetric control.)

b) Check and adjust speed.
Turn control screw (bypass) on throttle housing until specified speed is reached.

8. Start function of idle volumetric control after completing adjustments (remove locally made wire).

9. Recheck adjustments, correcting if necessary.
