Subject:
Rear Heater Blower Resistor
ATTENTION: Service Manager / Service Technician
Models Affected:
911 Carrera 214 1989-on
Concern:
Rear heater blower motor does not function.
General Information:
Newer version rear heater blower resistors have been installed as part of the P02 campaign and in production from the following motor numbers:
M6401 - 62P04996 Manual transmission
M6402 - 62P51654 Tiptronic transmission
The new version resistor is different from the previous version in that the new version resistor has a manually resettable bi-metal thermoswitch which stops current flow to the first stage of the blower motor if a fault occurs in the blower motor circuit.
If this blower resistor bi-metal thermoswitch is tripped, it must be manually reset by pressing down the spring plate which is under the copper colored reed contact (see Figure A). The reason for the thermoswitch activation must then be diagnosed and repaired.
