Models Affected: 928 S4 and 928 GT

Concern: Standardization of replacement coolant pumps.

Repair Information: Replacement coolant pump with roller guide (arrow in Figure 1), Part Number 928 106 015 20 can be installed on 928 S4/GT engines from model year '87 engine numbers:

81 H 00443 - manual transmission
81 H 06253 - automatic transmission

When installing new coolant pump on engines within engine number range 81 H 00443 through 00659 manual transmission and 81 H 06253 through 06735 automatic transmission, the front belt cover must be modified by removing the shaded area illustrated in the sketch below (Figure 2).

'87 model year engines prior to the above engine numbers require coolant pump Part Number: 928 106 015 22.
