Group
1

Part Identifier

Number

Subject:
Cylinder Head Gaskets

ATTENTION:
Service Manager/Service Technician

This bulletin supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 1, Number 9209, dated 8-11-92.

Models Affected:
All four cylinder engines from M. Y. 1983 and all eight cylinder engines from M. Y. 1978

Concern:
Marking cylinder heads which have been machined and using the correct cylinder head gasket after machining.

Repair Information:

Should cylinder heads require machining to the cylinder head gasket surface, the letter "N", approximately 6 mm in height, should be stamped on the casting in the location as shown in Figure 1A and Figure 2A. If the final thickness dimension is at or between the specifications listed in Figure 1 and Figure 2, a thicker cylinder head gasket is required. (See parts information.)

Parts Information:

The following head gaskets should be used with cylinder heads that have been machined to measurement 23.8 to 23.6 mm (see dimension A in Figure 1) for a two valve head and 146.8 to 146.6 mm (see dimension A in Figure 2) for a four valve head. These gaskets are 1.4 mm thick. Standard head gaskets are 1.1 mm thick. Part numbers for standard head gaskets are found in the Porsche parts microfiche catalogs.
