ATTENTION: Service Manager/Warranty Administrator

Please be advised that there have been several reported incidents of defects resulting from improper modification and installation of unauthorized parts and accessories to the wiring system of Porsche vehicles. In some of these cases, Porsche dealers either installed or arranged for sublet installation of these unauthorized parts to accommodate a customer. These are not warranty matters.

The electrical systems on all cars are becoming more complex with the advent of electronic components which control ignition, fuel management, instrument panels, anti-lock braking systems, and even transmission and differential management devices, as well as supplemental restraint systems. Porsche vehicles are designed and evaluated with all Porsche systems and have been certified to NHTSA and EPA requirements. Alterations to the vehicle which have not been evaluated by Porsche AG cannot and will not be considered in the Warranty System.

The practical summary of this information is that Porsche Cars N.A. does not warrant aftermarket equipment or any failures caused by the installation of such equipment.

If the dealer sublets the installation of such equipment to an independent shop, both the customer and Porsche Cars N.A. will view that shop as the agent of the dealer.

Examples of such equipment are alarm systems, remote unlocking/starting systems, phones, fax machines, audio equipment, computers, radar detectors, etc.

All dealership personnel including sales personnel should be advised that conversions, additions, and modifications can seriously impair the performance, integrity, and safety of Porsche vehicles and, therefore, should be aware of the concerns with the addition of aftermarket electronic systems or aftermarket equipment which requires tapping into the Porsche electrical system.
