Models Affected: 928 S4 and 928 GT, from model year 1989
Concern: Operation of the ignition circuit monitoring relay can occur because of temperature difference between cylinders 4 and 8.
Production Change: From model year 1991, the thermo elements are installed on cylinders 3 and 7.
Service Information: '89 and '90 model year cars can be modified if fault codes in the ignition circuit monitoring system appear although the ignition system is operating properly.

Work Procedure: Remove thermo element (1) and adapter (2) from cylinders 4 and 8 (Figure 1).
Remove plugs (3) from cylinders 3 and 7.
Install plugs in cylinders 4 and 8 with new sealing rings (4) Part Number (N 0138126) and torque to 20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.).
Install adapters with new sealing rings in cylinders 3 and 7 and torque to 20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.).
Install new thermo elements Part Number 928 606 155 01 (longer wiring) and torque to 10 N-m (7.5 ft.lbs.).
Disconnect wiring plug from ignition circuit monitoring relay (located on LH/EZK control unit bracket). Disengage white wires E1 and E2 from plug and move E1 to E2 and E2 to E1 (Figure 2).
