Models Affected: All
Vehide Information: All Porsche vehicles since model year 1989 have factory alarm systems installed as standard equipment. The system uses an additional alarm contact for the radio.
Figure 1:
Parts Information: The Charleston, Reno, Reno 2, and Stuttgart radios use the same mounting frame which incorporates the alarm contact. This requires an insulator block on the radio chassis (Figure 1).
The CD2 disc player uses a different mounting frame and an internal alarm switch.
Service Information: Whenever a radio is replaced, make sure the insulator is in place. It is included with radios supplied as spare parts.
Be sure to slide the radio through the mounting frame as straight as possible to avoid damaging the frame contact.
Be sure the radio is fully seated and locked in place to correctly position the insulator under the frame contact.
When fully installed, the alarm micro switch on the top of the CD2 unit must be clear of all harnesses or other objects.
Whenever changing a CD2 over to one of the radios or vice versa, be sure to use the appropriate mounting frame. The CD2 frame does not have an alarm contact; therefore, the contact wire should be tied back out of the way.
Failure to observe the above points may result in alarm system malfunction and/or a dead battery.
