Control/warning lamps may light up with no apparent reason, or malfunction of other electronic components may occur in conjunction with the operation of mobile telephones (even a portable, self-contained type) inside the vehicle. When the telephone is hardwired, this can be caused by improper telephone installation such as incorrect power or ground connections, incorrect routing of wiring and false signals introduced as a result of telephone usage.
If the warning lamps light up, find out if the customer was using a mobile telephone at that time. If so, and the telephone is hardwired, the first step is to disconnect or remove the telephone system completely. If the complaint then cannot be reproduced, it is reasonable to assume that the malfunction is caused by either the operation or installation of the telephone. If the customer was using a self-contained portable type, try to duplicate the circumstances. Should you be able to duplicate these circumstances using his/her portable telephone, explain to the customer that these circumstances are caused by outside influence and are not the result of any malfunction in the vehicle. The customer should be referred to the installer of the telephone.
Modifications or repairs resulting in damage to the vehicle caused by aftermarket telephone installation is not a warranty matter.
