ATTENTION: Service Manager/Warranty Administrator
There have been some questions about 944 Turbo Models relating to the K02 recall. The purpose of this bulletin is to help clear up any confusion as to the proper parts application.
There are several methods for determining whether the vehicle has sport suspension:
- If the vehicle involved in the recall is a 944 S (4 valve) or 944 Turbo and has M-Option M030 or M758, it has sport suspension.
- Check the label that is located in the spare tire well which has the option numbers listed. If either option listed above is there, the vehicle has sport suspension.
- Examine the struts.
Sport Suspension: Lower coil spring plates adjustable (Figure 1)
Regular Suspension: Lower coil spring plates not adjustable
Additionally, refer to the quick-comm sent to All Dealers on September 20, 1989 by Josef Zloklikovits regarding Parts Identification. This has been clarified below as further aid to identification.
A-arms recently shipped to your dealership for the Pre-Delivery/Recall Campaign K02 may not have been individually identified with a part number, but a distinction between A-arms for the regular suspension and the sport suspension still exists.
The visual distinguishing marks are in the color of the washers pressed onto the steel sleeve in the rubber bushings in addition to the identification number on the washer. These are as follows:
Regular Suspension:
Gold colored steel washer with identification PN 951 341 041 01 identifies PN 951 341 027 02 and PN 951 341 028 02.
Sport Suspension:
Steel colored steel washer with identification PN 951 341 041 31 identifies PN 951 341 027 31 and PN 951 341 028 31.
All other hardware is the same for both suspension versions.
Please note that A-arms coded with either vendor identification HBF or SWW are being shipped to your dealership. HBF and SWW are interchangeable and can be mixed on the same vehicle. No SWW identified A-arms were installed in production on vehicles within the K02 recall VIN ranges. Therefore, if the vehicle's A-arm has SWW markings, it is either outside the recall range or the vehicle has had the A-arm replaced.
