Concern: Repair procedures for horn buttons on cars with air bag steering wheels.
Repair Information: Horn buttons are serviceable. Replacement horn buttons, leaf springs and contact plates are available from the parts department.
Disassembly, Assembly and Checking Procedure
Disassembly
1. Remove steering wheel Refer to Workshop Manual 944 page 68-9

2. Pry out horn button with small screwdriver (Figure 1).
3. Remove leaf spring.

4. Insert leaf spring in the guides (arrows in Figure 2).
Note: Silver contact in the middle of the leaf spring must face down.
5. Install horn button. Engage upper locking tab first, then push in horn button entirely. Make sure all locking tabs are engaged. Button must move easily in and out without binding.

6. Connect ohmmeter to horn wire terminal and steering wheel housing (Figure 3).
Reading: infinite ohms
Push horn button
Reading: 0-5 ohms
Check each button separately.
7. Reinstall steering wheel.
