Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

OHMMETER & VOLTMETER:

1. Remove upper air cleaner housing and filter.
2. Pull lower air cleaner housing and air flow sensor out of housing.
3. Disconnect air flow sensor wiring connector.
4. Remove relay XVI, then bridge terminals 30 and 87 with a jumper wire.
5. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between terminals 4 and 2 of disconnected wire connector.
6. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals 3 and 6 of air flow sensor. Correct resistance is 0--1000 ohms.
7. Connect ohmmeter across terminals 3 and 5 of air flow sensor. Correct resistance is 3.6--4.1 ohms. Hot Wire Sensor

HOT WIRE SENSOR:

1. Install air flow sensor and lower air cleaner housing. Lubricate housing O-ring with silicone prior to installation.
2. Connect air flow meter wiring connector. Do not install upper air cleaner housing or filter at this time.
3. Start engine and allow to reach operating temperature, then run engine at approximately 2000 RPM. Turn ignition off.
4. Using a mirror, observe hot wire. Hot wire should glow for one second after a time lapse of approximately four seconds after ignition is shut off.
