Convertible Top: Adjustments

Top Adjustment

Precise alignment between the convertible top and body as well as connecting parts is possible by making adjustments on top mounts (A) and holder (B). The convertible top frame is bolted on the welded top mounts with two socket head bolts for each mount.

The convertible top can be adjusted forward/back to the door window and corrected in height with the help of shims (1) without influencing the kinematics of the top frame.

Closed holder (2) is adjusted and fastened on the side with the inner plate and via four adjusting screws (3) in the area of the cross member, which are accessible after loosening the luggage compartment trim panel. The height to the top can be corrected with these adjusting screws.

The front windshield frame is shaped to take the fasteners (1) and locating pins. Fasteners are mounted with three bolts each on the windshield frame and can be adjusted.

Locating pins (2) are used to guide the top while raising (closing) the convertible top.

The gate guide on the windshield frame is used to take the locking pin of the fastener and locating pin, and can be adjusted in transverse direction. Mounting screws are accessible after removal of the trim panel.

The trim panel is mounted on the windshield frame. Handle recess plate (4) is located in the middle of the trim panel.

Operating handle (5) is inserted through an opening in the trim panel into the fastener.

Locating pins on the front roof frame must submerge in the middle of the guide sleeves while raising (closing) the convertible top.

Necessary corrections are made by adjusting the threaded forks on the mounts. The basic adjustment on threaded forks is 24 mm.

Tightening torque of locknuts: 55 Nm.
Tightening torque for threaded forks to body: 28 Nm.

Adjustment of the threaded forks chiefly produces a longitudinal correction toward the front or rear, in addition to a correction in height and slight lateral offset. This adjustment influences the top kinematics and should therefore be carried out carefully. It might be necessary to also correct the opposite side.

Top forward motion must be adjusted in such a manner that the lower edge of the roof frame is 25 ± 5 mm higher than the windshield frame.

In case of an electric convertible top the 'top closed" micro switch on the right swing4ype gearbox must be adjusted in such a manner that the steering arm operates the micro switch when the adjusted distance of 25 ± 5 mm is reached.

The "top opened" micro switch is adjusted in such a manner that the steering arm operates the micro switch when the adjusted distance of 50 ± 5 mm is reached between the roof frame and holder in the middle.
