Subject:
Ignition Distributor Marking

ATTENTION: Service Manager 1 Service Technician

Models Affected:

911 Carrera 214 Model Year 1989-on

General Information:

During Model Year 1993 a modified drive belt was installed in the ignition distributor of 911 Carrera 2/4 models. The distributor with the modified belt was installed from the following engines:

Engine Number 62P02846 Manual transmission
62P51264 Tiptronic transmission

Identification:

Ignition Distributors can be identified in the following way:

1) New ignition distributors with the modified drive belt have the production date stamped (in small numbers) in the area of arrow 1. Example ("361"). The number itself is not important, however, it is important that a number is in the location of arrow 1.

2) The production date on distributors with the old drive belt is located in the area of arrow 2. This can not be seen with the distributor installed in an engine. The area of arrow 1 has no marking on these distributors.

3) Remanufactured ignition distributors from Bosch have always had the modified drive belt installed. These distributors are marked with the letter "Z" in the area of arrow 3. The production date of the remanufactured distributors is of no importance.

Repairs:

During heavy engine repairs, such as engine overhaul, ignition distributors with the old drive belts should be replaced with a remanufactured distributor with the modified drive belt.

Literature:

Insure ignition distributor ventilation. (Tech Bulletin 9403 Group 2).
