Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Raise and support vehicle and remove final muffler.
2. Remove bolts securing inner CV joints to transaxle, disconnect driveshafts suspending shafts in horizontal position.
3. Disconnect support from transaxle rear cover.
4. Disconnect selector and control pressure cables from brackets and levers, then pull cables from suspension console.
5. Open inspection hole in rear bellhousing, then remove bolts securing torque converter.
6. Support transaxle with suitable jack, then remove transaxle suspension and transaxle mounting bolts.
7. Remove right stub axle and right transaxle suspension from transaxle.
8. Disconnect cooler lines from transaxle, using angled end wrench to support coupling nuts on transaxle.
9. Remove bolts securing transaxle to bellhousing, lower transaxle slightly, then pull transaxle back far enough to gain access to torque converter. Secure torque converter, then remove transaxle from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
