Concern: Installation of new version pistons and piston rings.

General Information: Reinforced pistons and modified piston rings are installed from production date: April 15, 1991. Engine number 42 M 05041 (M44.41)

Repair Information: When repairing high oil consumption on engines prior to the engine numbers listed in this bulletin, new version pistons with rings should be installed. Check and measure cylinder bores for wear before installing new pistons.

When repairing engines for high oil consumption which have new version pistons already installed and cylinder bores are OK, replace piston rings only.

Note: Connecting rod bearing shells and nuts must always be replaced when repairing an engine whenever connecting rods are removed.
