Subject:
Disc Jammed in CD Changer
(CDC-1)

ATTENTION:
Service Manager/Service Technician

Models Affected:
All

Concern:
Varying tolerances in compact discs can, on rare occasions, cause the disc to jam or not load into the CDC-1.

General Information:
This does not mean that the CDC-1 is defective. The following procedures should be used before replacement of the CD changer is considered.

Diagnosis Procedure:
If the CDC-1 is not operational for any reason, one of four error codes may appear in the display of the CR-1 radio (see Figure 1).

If E01 of E02 appears, procud as follows:

1. Release the compact disc magazine from the changer.

If the magazine will not release by pressing the eject button on the changer, then insert a plastic card, such as a credit card, between the bottom of the magazine and the changer (see Figure 2). The magazine should then release. It is not necessary to insert the plastic card more than 2 inches.

2. Remove the magazine and remove any compact discs in the magazine. Check the magazine for distortion or damage. Replace if necessary (see Figures 3a and 3b).

3. Reinsert the empty magazine into the changer. Press the eject button on the CR-1 radio. The compact disc which may be stuck in the changer should now eject into the empty magazine.

4. If the changer still does not operate, disconnect the DIN cable going to the changer for a period of at least 10 minutes. This will cause the changer to re-initialize. Reconnect DIN cable and repeat Step 3.

5. If the error code shows EEE, check all connections and cable from the changer to the radio.

Diagnosis Procedure (cont.):
6. If the error code shows -H, the temperature protection circuit has been activated in the changer. The changer must cool down before it will work again. This may take up to several hours depending upon the air temperature around the changer.

Important Note:
If work is being performed on a Porsche which involves disconnecting the battery, any compact discs which are in the CDC-1 should be ejected into the magazine and the magazine should be removed from the CDC-1. This precaution will prevent a loading or eject problem from occurring in the CDC-1 once battery power is restored to the vehicle.
