Concern:
Fault diagnosis of air bag system.

General Information:

There has been some confusion in diagnosis of air bag faults on 1992 and later vehicles. When using Porsche special tool 9288 for air bag diagnosis, ALL of the information for a particular fault must be obtained and noted before diagnosis of the fault begins. This means the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) number and the description of the fault as the 9288 reads it should be noted.

On models 928 and 911 from model year 1992, the DTC does not match the fault codes listed with the test points in the Workshop Manual. However, the description of the fault is accurate. On all 1992 and later vehicles, the DTC description of the fault and test points may be found in the 968 Workshop Manual, Volume III, pages D68-7 to D68-13.

Fault description, DTC and test points for 1990 to 1991 vehicles are found in the appropriate Workshop Manual for that particular model.

The following fault codes and descriptions apply to all Porsche models 1992 and later.
