Main Bearing No. 8 Oil Seal


Crankshaft oil seal can be replaced without removing engine from vehicle.
1. Remove drive belt pulley as follows:
a. Using tool P208b or equivalent, remove cooling fan pulley attaching nut.
b. Loosen A/C compressor and remove drive belt.
c. Loosen and remove drive belt pulley attaching bolt, then remove pulley.
2. Pry out oil seal at cutout in crankshaft bearing No. 8.
3. Clean oil seal contact surface on crankshaft.
4. Coat outer sealing surface of new oil seal with suitable sealant.
5. Lubricate sealing lip of new oil seal and position seal on crankshaft.
6. Using tool P216 or equivalent, install oil seal.
7. Install drive belt pulley as follows:
a. Clean pulley to crankshaft contact surfaces.
b. Install pulley on crankshaft and align with locating pin.
c. Torque single groove pulley attaching bolt to 58 ft. lbs., or double groove pulley attaching bolt to 122 ft. lbs.
