Breakage of the guide pins for the emergency folding top can occur if the top is incorrectly adjusted or if the top opening and closing procedure is not followed correctly. Breakage occurs when the guide pins (A in Figure 1) are not centered in their guides (B in Figure 1).

General Information:

Effective immediately, the guide pins are available as spare parts. It is no longer necessary to replace the side roof frame element (C in Figure 1).

Work Procedure:

Replacing guide pins:

Open the folding top far enough to gain access to the back side of the guide pin. Hold the top in this position and stabilize the side roof frame element (C in Figure 1).





Using a 5 mm punch, drive the guide pin out from the back side (A in Figure 2).

Install the plastic washer (999 025 246 40) onto the new guide pin (964 563 855 00) and press into position using water pump pliers and a metal sleeve to prevent damage to the plastic guide pin while pressing. If the pin does not fit snugly, use Loctite 270 to glue it in place.





IMPORTANT:
If the guide pin does not fit in the center of the guide hole on the body bracket, the auxiliary link (arrow Figure 3) must be adjusted (slight bending) or replaced.

To replace the auxiliary link, first heat the microencapsulated bolts with a heat gun before removal. Always use new bolts on assembly. After installation, check and, if necessary, adjust the emergency top. Be certain the guide pins of the side roof frame elements fit exactly in the center of the guide hole of the body bracket.
