Cylinder Installation
1. Ensure that mating surfaces at the joints with the crankshaft and cylinder head are clean.
2. Install new gaskets at base of cylinders.
3. Lubricate pistons and piston rings with clean engine oil. Ensure piston rings are installed with TOP marking facing upward.
4. Stagger piston ring gaps opposite each other (approximately 90° apart) with oil scraper ring gap to the top.
5. Using tool US1008a or equivalent, compress piston rings.
6. Apply light coat of clean engine oil to cylinder bore and install cylinder. Ensure studs protruding from crankcase do not contact cylinder cooling fins. The installed height of the cylinder is divided into two categories. Only cylinders of the same height and bearing the same mark stamped on the lower flange should be installed in the same bank. The mark consists of an equilateral triangle containing a number denoting cylinder height. Do not interchange cylinders.
7. Install air deflector plates.
8. Install cylinder heads.
