Emission Control Systems: Service and Repair



CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR LEAKS,
DAMAGE, OR WORN HANGERS after 1st 2,000-2,500 miles, then every 15K miles


CHECK EVAPORATIVE CONTROL AND PCV SYSTEM HOSES AND CONNECTIONS
FOR CRACKS, SWELLING, LEAKS, OR OTHER DAMAGE every 15K miles


CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RESET OPERATION

Disconnect ECU or battery to clear all codes.

NOTE: All idle control adaptations are lost when the battery or ECU is disconnected. The vehicle will need to be driven a minimum of 6 minutes and let idle at least 10 minutes, so the control unit can relearn idle speed, timing and mixture parameters. The engine must be at operating temperature, throttle switch for idle position closed or adaptation will not take place.
