General Information:
Introduction of new connecting rods which are reinforced in the area of the connecting rod bolt surface (arrow).
Repair Information:
Effective immediately, only the new connecting rods are available as spare parts which can be installed in engines as of M.Y. 1992.
IMPORTANT:
If, during an engine repair, one or more connecting rod nuts are loosened, all connecting rods should be replaced with the new reinforced version (if the previous version is installed).
Always use new connecting rod nuts. Torque to: 25 N-m (18 ft.lb.) plus 90° angle of rotation.
NOTE:
In the beginning of production, reinforced connecting rods were installed with the old casting number ending "IR"; therefore, before replacement, always measure the width of the reinforcement rib "A".
Wide connecting rod shank = new version = can be reused
Small connecting rod shank = old version = replace
All connecting rods with the casting number ending in "2R" (arrow) can be reused if no other damage is present.
